Cherry Creek’s Choppers Named as One of Denver’s Best Places to Watch Football

With football season in full swing, many Denver residents are looking for the perfect bar to take in the game. According to the Huffington Post, there are several are bars that will fit the bill. One of these just happens to be Cherry Creek’s very own Choppers, which features hundreds of local microbrews as well as draft and shot specials on game days..

Named after former Denver Nuggets trainer Robert “Chopper” Traviglini, Choppers captures the big heart and style of its namesake. Featuring plenty of space accompanied by more than 50 high-def televisions, the bar offers plenty of opportunities to take in the game in style. In fact, 15 of the televisions are 73 inch Big Screens, while the remaining 35 are 52 inch Sony and Mitsubishi televisions. Televisions are even placed in the rest rooms and on the patios, so there is never an excuse for missing an amazing play. The bar also subscribes to all of the top sports packages and has multiple satellites and receivers, prompting the bar to brag that “if it’s televised, we’ll show it.” Yet, despite all of the televisions and the large layout of the bar, Choppers manages to maintain a neighborhood feel.

While Choppers offers one of the best selections of Colorado beers in the state, the bar is also highly renowned for its food. All of the food at Choppers is made fresh, including homemade potato chips and fresh cut fries. The restaurant is also popular among locals for its Mile High Nachos, Homemade Pizzas, Spicy Buffalo Wings and Burgers. It is because of the perfect combination of sports atmosphere, drinks and food that Choppers has been recognized as “Best Sports Bar” and “Best Patio” by The Rocky Mountain News, The Denver Post, Westword, Citysearch.com, Insite Magazine and 5280 Magazine.

Right Start to Open New Baby Gear Store in Cherry Creek North

Expectant parents and parents of young children will be excited to learn that Right Start, a premier baby gear retailer, has announced plans to open a new store in the Cherry Creek North community. Even better for busy parents on a tight schedule, the new store features a free parking lot for its customers.

“We are very excited to open a store in the same city as our corporate headquarters, and to be a bigger part of the local community. By providing expert product knowledge, our customers know we are a reliable option. Our goal is to build a family with the community and become a source of information for new moms. We’ll also have some great giveaways to celebrate our grand opening,” said Michael Wagner, who is the CEO of the company, in a recent press release.

The Right Start chain, which was purchased by Liberty Media Corporation two years ago and will be located at the corner of 3rd Avenue and Milwaukee Street, offers everything a parent needs to take care of a baby. Items to be offered in the store include strollers, car seats, high chairs, nursery and kids furniture, feeding essentials, health and safety items, breastfeeding products, clothing and accessories, bath and potty necessities, toys, books, and gift and party supplies.

While the new store will be the tenth within the chain to be opened, it is the first to be opened since Liberty Media Corporation purchased the chain. Nonetheless, it will still offer the same products and services that have come to be associated with the chain. In addition to the assorted selection of products available at the store, it also offers regular events and classes that focus on the needs of families. Typical topics include registry tutorials, baby basics, book readings, safety seminars and pregnancy fitness tips. Special opportunities with vendors are also made available to customers on a regular basis.

The good news? Denver ranked 5th in the most friendly cities for young entrepreneurs in the United States. The bad news? A need to reveal that this wasn’t the most “systematic” of studies. One may call the metrics used a little “casual”. The group conducting the poll, Under30CEO, which is an online resource for young entrepreneurs, failed to provide a lot of information about its polling parameters.

Why Denver ranked #5 – Must Be The Starbucks

Among the items that the voters were asked to consider were climate, the social scene, schools, local events and “other resources”. By “other resources” I assume they mean Starbucks? I know for fact that there are more than a couple in the Cherry Creek Mall

All kidding aside, in my opinion this list seems strangely “accurate” from an anecdotal and “experimental” lens.

Example from the experimental angle: “Connectivity” is one of the foundations of any new enterprise across almost any industry – more so every day in our “web 5.0” culture. Denver’s consistent annual accolades as one of the “wifi Cities USA” (#7 in 2010; #8 in 2009 per Forbes) is just one way to justify Denver’s ability to more than kindly accommodate the young entrepreneur. Maybe there was something to the Starbucks!

I’d argue that the addition of a commonly used “cost of living” metric would’ve placed Denver right behind Austin.

Why Denver’s Rank May Be Conventionally “So Wrong”, But Feel & BE So Right

The fun with these lists is they’re inherently flawed. Some do better than others, but you can always pick them apart…and in many cases, you should. Even the most highly respected indices — S&P/Case-Shiller Home Prices for example –need to be challenged. As an active writer (I use that term loosely!) and Realtor in DC, I’ve had many opportunities to challenge “prestige housing indices” — as they forget that real estate is most responsibly studied on hyper local levels…but that’s another post!

Sometimes it’s refreshing to take a look at “flawed” city reports because they often show that the high priced “wonks” in the large research firms are crunching big numbers to make news when all they have to do is ask a few people on the street. In this case, there’s a beauty in a more than imperfect simplicity because, in my opinion, it reflected the reality — metrics, or not . In this sense, I’d say the young lads over at Under30CEO did okay.

So cheers to you, Denver!

Cherry Creek Officials Moving Forward with new Area Plan

While some are excited about working on a new Cherry Creek Area Plan in order to determine new guidelines for making changes in the future, others are asking why a new plan is being developed when the previous plan still hasn’t been set completely into action.

“We’re grateful that an area plan was done in 2000, but the criticism is that all of this great vision is done, but it’s sitting in the plan,” said Barbara Metzger, who is a resident of Cherry Creek East. “We want to make sure that the conversations are implemented.”

According to Metzger and other residents of Cherry Creek, all of whom gathered at the first Cherry Creek Area Plan’s public workshop that took place earlier this month, the same concerns being discussed today are the same ones residents had 10 years ago when the previous plan was developed. For example, the residents would like to see more defined gateways welcoming visitors to the city, improved connectivity for pedestrians, bikers and motorists and an increase in the amount of pedestrian lighting.

“We’re Cherry Creek, and we can’t get to the creek,” said Metzger as she discusses the need for improvements to be made on the Cherry Creek bike path, which currently requires going through the South Madison Street and East Alameda Avenue intersection.

Despite these concerns, Community Planning and Development Department officials maintained that it is time for a new plan, as numerous redevelopment projects have occurred since the previous plan was developed. Furthermore, more major projects are expected in the near future. According to Chris Gleissner, who is the co-project manager for the Cherry Creek Area Plan, the previous plan has served its purpose well and will continue to do so. For example, thanks to the previous plan, developers had guidelines in place for development along East First Avenue as well as the redevelopment in Cherry Creek North and Cherry Creek East. On the other hand, the previous plan only makes recommendations for land use, development and mobility, but it falls short of actually making any changes.

Despite the protests, officials are moving forward with a draft plan, which is slated to be complete in February. Adoption of the new plan is expected to take place in the spring, though more public workshops will be hosted before the draft and adoption of the new plan is completed.

If you wait too long, on the other hand, real estate prices will start going up and you will have missed out on the opportunity to the largest amount possible. Therefore, timing the market involves watching market trends in order to purchase the property as close to the bottom price as possible.

In order to better understand the concept of timing the market, it can be helpful to think of the market and its recovery as the letter “U.” The top left side of the U would represent when the economy is in full-swing, which is when real estate prices are at their highest. As the effects of the recession start to hit the real estate market, prices start to slide down the left arm of the market. Ideally, you will want to make your real estate purchase once the prices hit the bottom of the U. Of course, it isn’t possible to perfectly time the market at its lowest point. Rather, your goal should simply be to make your purchase as close to this bottom point as possible.

The bottom line is simple – if you missed making your purchase while the market was experiencing downward momentum, it’s not too late to purchase real estate at significantly reduced prices. Most markets throughout the country have already bottomed out and are starting to climb back up the right side of the U. Combine the low prices with government tax breaks, and there truly has never been a better time to make a property purchase.

The Cherry Creek North shopping district will soon undergo a multi-million dollar facelift – its first major renovation in 20 years. The upscale 16-block shopping area is home to more than 300 galleries, boutiques, restaurants and spas.

Voters in the Cherry Creek North Business Improvement District approved the $18.5 million capital improvement project to put the area in prime position as the economy starts to rebound, reports Joseph Kirchmer for YourHub.com. The renovation will also make Cherry Creek North more competitive with other outdoor shopping districts in the metro Denver.

Among the improvements, the district will repave aging sidewalks, fix up intersections, plant hundreds of new trees, replace existing light poles and add more public art. The renovation will enhance the shopping experience of walking along the streets from store to store.

The 14-month project is expected to begin in the fall, but it may be postponed to early next year to ensure construction is carefully managed and to minimize disruption to businesses. The district hopes to model the project after a similar renovation effort under way in the ski resort town of Vail.

A growing number of analysts now predict that the economy is so weak that the Fed will have to reduce its official target to zero if it wants to jump start the stalled economy, as it said in its last policy statement.

Japan’s central bank reduced its benchmark interest rate to zero for five years, from 2001 to 2006, primarily to combat a persistent case of deflation (a broad-based decline in consumer prices) and to revive economic growth. The jury’s still out on the move’s success.

Some analysts here see signs that the United States faces a similar threat. American banks have become so decimated by losses in real estate that they are either unable or unwilling to resume normal lending practices. And as prices for oil and many other commodities have crashed during the past two weeks, these same analysts now warn that deflation might be a threat here as well.

If the Fed funds rate does drop to zero, it would not mean free money for consumers or businesses. The zero rate would only apply to the reserves that banks are required to maintain and that they lend to one another. Customers would still have to pay some
