Get Skinny Summer Desserts

Summer is the best time for glorious fruits and delicious tastes that can’t be enjoyed any other time of the year.  It is also the best time of the year to enjoy desserts on the porch with the family.  The flip side to that beautiful scenario is the calories, so we’ve found some delicious low calorie desserts that will definitely top the ending of a day!

Frozen Chocolate Covered Bananas:  Kids aren’t the only family members that will enjoy this treat, the entire family will!  Peel the bananas, place a popsicle stick in the middle of the fruit, and dip the bananas in melted chocolate and roll in coconut.  Place the bananas on a waxed covered tray and cover and freeze!  These delicious treats only have 100 calories.

Watermelon Slush:  For a great summer slushy whirl up chunks of watermelon with ice, water, lime juice and a little sugar and you have a fantastic treat that is only 48 calories.

Mocha Pops:   These are a great after dinner treat or any time of the day for that matter.  Take about a half cup of hot brewed coffee and whisk four to five tablespoons of sugar and two tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder, in a medium bowl until the sugar has dissolved.  Whisk in a cup of half and half, a quarter of a teaspoon of vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.  Divide the mixture into freezer pop molds and insert the sticks and freeze.   These delicious treats are just 100 calories each!

Blueberries with Lemon Cream:   Take four ounces of reduced fat cream cheese and break it up with a fork in a medium bowl.  Take three fourths of a cup of low fat vanilla yogurt and drain off any liquid from the yogurt and add to the bowl.  Add one teaspoon honey beat with an electric mixer at high speed.  Stir in two teaspoons freshly grated lemon zest.  In wineglasses or dessert dishes layer the lemon cream and two cups fresh blueberries.  Refrigerate for eight hours.   This delicious treat is only 156 calories per serving!
